Ok, that's a pseudo definition. But what's worse than murder?

Seriously? What's worse than murder? Committing the crime based on something the victim could never change. There color or ethnicity, nationality, etc. Committing a crime on the basis of a status protected under the law carries extra charges. It's like making fun of people because of disabilities. How about gender, throw that in there too. Rape isn't a love crime. Wahlberg was not charged with a hate crime. He was an angry young teen, and quite possibly hated everyone equally. In this case "hate crime" is a red herring.

I'm sort of torn on this. I don't think he should be pardoned based on his celebrity, but if his celebrity could help even one at risk child take a better path in life it would be beneficial to society.

He can find other ways to contribute. Yes, but given his life experience, doesn't it make sense for him to mentor at risk youths? We know he has been there and done that....

He paid his debt, changed his life, became a father, experienced a completely different lifestyle than when he was an angry punk kid, hasn't re-offended since. Let him have it.

Perhaps I am naive but I don't see this man as a threat to society at this point in his life he seems to not be quite so angry and disturbed as he was when he was a teenager. He seems to have gotten his life together when it very easily could have gone very wrong. I do however still feel for the victims of his crimes.

I really don't care if he getsa pardon or not. But I do think that he isn't the same person and can be an example to people who have made those kind of mistakes.

Today at 12:30 PM 1 Comment Mark Wahlberg’s Assault Victim Forgives HimBy Lindsey Weber Mark Wahlberg wants to be a reserve officer for the LAPD, and to do so, he has asked Massachusetts to expunge his record. In 1988, Wahlberg attacked two Vietnamese men while shouting racial slurs, for which he ultimately spent 45 days in prison. Today, to talk about the event, the Daily Mail tracked down one of Wahlberg's victims, Johnny Trinh. Trinh, who had no idea the movie star was his attacker, said, despite rumors, that the attack didn't result in his blinding: "He did hurt me, but my left eye was already gone." Now, many years later, Trinh forgives Wahlberg. "He was young and reckless but I forgive him now,” he told the Daily Mail. “Everyone deserves another chance.” He added, “I would like to see him get a pardon. He should not have the crime hanging over him any longer." Source
