it is quite simple. 12 inches by 12 inches is one square foot ------------------ Nothing "simple" about 12 inches in a foot. Or 16 ounces in a pound. Or 212 being the boiling point of water. Or 5280 feet in a mile. What's the matter? Can't count to 10?

Because the metric system sucks that's why. How does it suck? Which bits do you have a problem with? You can't count to 10, either?

What, you can't count to 12? or 16? -------------- Sure can! I can also count to 212 and 5280. But that's not the point and you know it. Why memorize all these arbitrary and illogical numbers when 10 will do?

if it had any merit, it would have been here long before feet and pounds ---------------- ?? That doesn't even make sense, much like your meat and monkey argument.Or your gases and solids argugument. It couldn't have "been here" long before feet and pounds because the more logical and practical system hadn't been invented yet.

See I learned both, it was a weird time learning metric at home but all the adults still used the old system. I learned both too. Wasn't difficult. Prefer metric, I guess... imperial seemed archaic. And that's where I stand on the metric vs imperial debate. The next big debate - scrunch or fold? Who scrunches? I want to know.

. Of course it's archaic. The Foot As the name implies, scholars think that the foot was actually based on the length of the human foot. The Romans had a unit of measure called a pes that was made up of twelve smaller units called unciae. The Roman pes was a smidge shorter than our foot—it came in at around 11.6 inches—and similar Old English units based on the length of people's feet were also a bit shorter than our 12-inch foot. The 12-inch foot didn't become a common unit of measurement until the reign of Henry I of England during the early 12th century, which has led some scholars to believe it was standardized to correspond to the 12-inch foot of the king. Read the full text here: mentalfloss.com/article/25108/why-are-there-5280-feet-mile-making-sense-measurements#ixzz2NMaF1EPt --brought to you by mental_floss! Jumbo seems to think that a standard of measurement based on the size of an English monarch's foot makes more sense.

We have ten fingers and ten toes and any system based on that is superior don't you think!? Yeh, and the relationship between chronology and merit is probably more complex than the impression given there. YOU!!!! Ahem, yep. People who fold are neurotic control freaks, trying to hold on to reality too tight. People who scrunch are loose cannons on deck, flying by the seat of their pants. 8-) ya sure, its just easier to scrunch isn't it!?
