The woman is charged with adultery, although she denied the charges and is pleading not guilty on the basis that the sexual act was against her will. Her attempt to make a complaint of rape has been denied on the technicality that she is under investigation on other charges and she should have complained at the time of the incident. Her request for bail has been denied by the attorney general.
Mind boggling isn't it?

It bothers me how women are treated in countries such as this. How can the women of the great an powerful "civilized" countries not extend a helping hand? I don't get it.

It will only be done by the deaths of thousands of our young and the young of the other nations Exactly right. The women of any civilized nation can do nothing to help a person like this. The only change that can be made, would be made forcefully. And recent history shows that you cannot force a view point on an unwilling nation. The only method by which that is possible is occupation.

History is littered with occupations and i cant see how more occupations will cure it.
Change has to come from within a country for the culture to change. No type of enforced change from outsiders will ever work imho.

Would you send your sons to die for them?

We are assuming all these people in developing countries are hankering after a western lifestyle. We in the West are not very far behind the developing countries in advocating human rights. How very arrogant of us then to now decide what is best for other people in other countries, when we cant even take care of all of our own people materially and administer human rights correctly.

I don't feel it is arrogant of me to want to help other human beings who are being treated as chattel. Who could be happy living with no rights whatsoever? They are essentially slaves. HUMANITARIAN support is not arrogant when it is so obviously needed.

Humanitarian support gets stolen by war lords, and despots. The people will still suffer.

HUMANITARIAN support is not arrogant when it is so obviously needed. It is very arrogant when people are suffering in your own country. Poverty etc, granted its a different type of poverty but poverty it is nevertheless. My philosophy is "get your own house in order first before tinkering in other countries affairs" When all your people are financially safe, secure and can look forward to a prosperous future and all have access to decent healthcare. Then, and only then should we carefully interfere/help out in the lives and affairs of other countries.

I cant remember the guys name but he was an African tribal leader of an African country and he was blowing millions on escort girls, London casinos, fine food and very expensive homes and cars etc.
All that money was AID money given by the British and West. Meanwhile his own people were starving and dying.
Why should we help them any further when their own leaders don't care a jot about their people and are constantly tainted by corruption ?
I believe Nelson Mandela had some multimillion dollar holiday home. A hero, eh ?
The world is twisted and bent. Sort that first and maybe, just maybe we can all help them out.

Throwing money at a country is just asking for corruption. I think it would have to be more of a mission of education.

You cant educate them if the leadership is tainted by greed and corruption and wont allow it. Its simply a naive notion.
