Ten reasons why not to buy *made in China* goods (and services).
1. Human Rights abuses --Inside China and in other nations such as Tibet, Mongolia, Uyghur, Vietnam.
----thousands of examples to be found all over the internet/videos/reports
----*dissidents* from China, Tibet in jails, often with no chance to be freed.
2. Not a good Global Citizen --*if you dont do what we say, you shall be in trouble with us! --
China not being a good Global citizen": on one side China protests against military support of the U.S.A. for Taiwan's independence which is a democratic country and doesn't want to be a part of communist China; on the other side China tried to support Muammar Gaddafi's terrorist regime in Lybia with weapons against a UN embargo! So, why should G8 countries and the others take China serious?
China is supporting Iran and the corrupt and criminal Government of Syria, and is promoting harsh punishments for dissidents.
3. Such low wages that millions of workers live in dire poverty
4. No environmental rules==pollutiing the world==endangering human life.
5. Manipulates its currency to make its goods cheaper at the expense of locally made products causing joblessness worldwide
6. Piracy of products/ideas -stealing of data from Government files and personal.
----copying of European and other designs
----stealing universities information i.e. new discoveries space/virus (illness)/metallic/natural matters
7. Corrupt business practices which
create dangerous products: i.e. additives such as lead in toys and dinnerware, melamine in food, etc.;
Corrupt business practices in nations such as Africa (promise of money and help but then grabbing the land of the AFRICAN nations to mine and use as farmland to feed their own mainland China.
-----2nd rate quality of products *made in China* flooding the markets in the USA, Australia, Europe ..
8. Harmful fishing practices (don't buy seafood from China) such as bottom trawling, fishing to depletion of stocks, wasteful practices such as for shark's fins;
9. Chinese traditional medicine promotes the use of parts from endangered animals, such as rhinoceros and tigers.
10. Wars: China provides many dangerous rogue countries such as PAKISTAN, with weapons
and is putting armies around borders with India and other sensitive borders. China is not peaceloving but is out there to take whatever it can, whereever it can, whenever it can.
and point 11:
FREEDOM OF SPEECH, RELIGION AND CULTURE has completely and utterly been taken away. No longer people can freely celebrate their religeous beliefs nor can they any longer freely express themselves in arts/poetry/music and the written word - media and books. China has become a jail within a jail..and the only people enjoying themselves are the Communist followers and leaders of the moment.

All valid points. Particularly the low wages, manipulation of currency and corrupt business practices. (piracy could have been a sub category of corruption)
But the bottom line is always the bottom line. The cost for a product will always trump other issues.
I do believe that people are largely tired of China and their products and questionable business practices. It's getting that attitude to change into dollars that's proved difficult.

If we manufactured here and paid good wages the workers would be able to pay the increased price of made in the USA.
If the corporatists were taxed for goods manufactured outside the US it would help. Fuck them.

Change has to come from the consumer.
When you buy items made in China you are supporting these many egregious abuses of human rights. There are MANY reasons not to buy Made in China.

It will never happen because wages are depressed, and people have to save money to make it. So they buy the cheapest shit they can an slit their own throats.

It amazes me how poorly made a lot of the items are, even the clothes fall apart after 2 washes. (so my daughter found out). A lot of the food brands I have never heard of and frankly it scares me to wonder what is really in those packages. Why not buy QUALITY items that cost a little more, support the locals AND lasts longer? In the end buying cheap is not really very thrifty.

If they sell your brand, they're probably a hell of a lot cheaper than anywhere else. Clothing? If you go for work clothes/outdoor/hunting type of items you'll do alright. Fashion stuff? I doubt it.

My daughter went there for work boots and they were crap. She ended up going to Marks Work Warehouse and got a decent, well made pair of steel toe boots. The walmarts here seem to carry only XXXL mens sizes.

Also - my thinking was that if he didn't like what he was doing that I wouldn't have spent a ton of cash on useless work stuff. And if he did like it enough to stay that I wouldn't mind forking over the dough for good quality product when he wore out the current items.
