TOWN REFUSES SOLAR PANELS BECAUSE THEY WILL ‘SUCK UP ALL THE ENERGY FROM THE SUN’ AND ‘CAUSE CANCER’

Sometimes you come across a story so bizarre and absurd, you think it must be satire. This is one of those times. The town of Woodland, North Carolina’s city council decided to reject environmentally friendly solar panels because residents voiced some of the most ridiculous concerns imaginable.
A local man named Bobby Mann claimed solar panels would:
“Suck up all the energy from the sun”
Really?
According to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald, Mann is also afraid the panels will cause other major problems for Woodland:
“Bobby Mann said he watched communities dry up when I-95 came along and warned that would happen to Woodland because of the solar farms.
‘You’re killing your town,’ he said. ‘All the young people are going to move out.’ “
Another resident named Jane Mann — who is inexplicably a retired science teacher — voiced her concerns also, saying:
“…photosynthesis, which depends upon sunlight, would not happen and would keep the plants from growing. She said she has observed areas near solar panels where the plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight.
She also questioned the high number of cancer deaths in the area, saying no one could tell her that solar panels didn’t cause cancer.”
Mann also made this seemingly paranoid claim:
“People come with hidden agendas. Until we can find if anything is going to damage this community, we shouldn’t sign any paper.”
Hidden agendas…like being environmentally responsible? Wow, that sounds super nefarious, Jane. Are you also concerned about chemtrails?
Seriously though, according to a handful of clearly ignorant residents of Woodland, solar panels will kill the town, make all the young people leave, suck up all the energy from the sun AND cause cancer. Unfortunately, the naïve, uneducated masses often win debates like this because they’re the loudest and most persistent.
It’s really too bad that some intelligent Woodland dwellers didn’t show up to the city council meeting to set the record straight. Maybe next time.
If ignorance is bliss, a lot of people living in Woodland, NC must be perpetually ecstatic.
