At one extreme you have indigenous, tribal societies trying to stem the race to disaster. At the other extreme, the richest, most powerful societies in world history, like the United States and Canada, are racing full-speed ahead to destroy the environment as quickly as possible. Unlike Ecuador, and indigenous societies throughout the world, they want to extract every drop of hydrocarbons from the ground with all possible speed.
Watcha gotta say about that then ?

the United States, the richest and most powerful country in world history, is the only nation among perhaps 100 relevant ones that doesn't have a national policy for restricting the use of fossil fuels, that doesn't even have renewable energy targets. It's not because the population doesn't want it. Americans are pretty close to the international norm in their concern about global warming. It's institutional structures that block change. Business interests don't want it and they're overwhelmingly powerful in determining policy...

The results of the recent election was that (British Columbians) want a strong economy, they want the jobs the strong economy provides, and they want the social services that the tax revenue from the strong economy can provide, But they also want to make sure it isn't done at the expense of the environment, so we are fully aligned with that perspective in terms of providing significant opportunities, in terms of procurement, jobs, tax revenue and ensuring that the environment is protected."

I don't think a day goes by here in Europe that we dont hear about the "environment" etc..etc.
Why are we bothering. Its like some fools errand were on when the US - the worlds largest emitter couldn't give a rats ass.

We all want the same thing in Europe but we have been warned that in the future, we will all have to all accept a much lower standard of living than past generations.
Have the people in the US and Canada been given the same warning ?

I know, here I am paying carbon taxes up the hoopla and India, China et al are puking out emissions with no thought or care.
