Recycling is a way of life where I live, I have been doing it so long it is habit. Also, I don't buy water bottles, I have a reusable stainless water container.

Plastic now has value, it will be processed and recycled more than ever.
I have a recycle bin for glass, tins, plastics a bag for newpapers and paper and a bag for cardboard as well as a composter. This is done and expected to be done by everyone. Most houses have one can of garbage per week aside from the recycling.
I keep cloth bags in my trunk for groceries. That is also common practice.

I have done everything I can to reduce my footprint. I don't run my air conditioner, I too have cloth bags for my groceries, I bicycle to work and to the store, public transportation everywhere else. I use a reusable pitcher to filter my water and bottle it as stated in my copper drinking bottle. all the lights in my house are L.E.D. alternatives. When I am not using my electronics I shut the power strips off as every one has a inline transformer which does constant draw of electricity even when off.
