Police arrest 20-year-old man after attack at girl’s home near Delhi that left her in a critical condition with severe burns. A 15-year-old girl is fighting for her life in a Delhi hospital after being raped and set on fire on the roof terrace of her family’s home, Indian police have said. The teenager was found by her parents, who heard her screaming from the terrace a few hours before dawn on Monday. She was taken to hospital from her home near the Delhi suburb of Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and remains in a critical condition with severe burns over most of her body. On Tuesday, Constable Yadram Singh of the Bisrakh police station said the girl had told officers she had been raped, beaten and set alight by a man who had been stalking her for months. www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/08/girl-15-raped-set-fire-india

Rape is pervasive in India, and Pakistan and the authorities are very slow to act.

wtf is wrong with these idiots why do they hate women? That's just it... they don't "hate" women. Their religious beliefs tell them that women are like property. That's what's wrong with them though... they have screwed up beliefs.

And once again, @richardintn , you speak with great knowledge. Did you rifle through 10,000 documents on this too? Once again you bemoan religion as the great evil, but religion has nothing to do with women being victimized in India. Unless you equate alcohol, sexism, and religion.
Alaskan males rape women three times more than the national average for the US. Must be that crazy religion they practice up there...what's it called? ...GGR? (Grizzly Grunt Religion). Must be their religious beliefs telling them that women are like property. The US ranks higher than India for males raping females (and get this, in case you have forgotten, the US has much less of a population than India)...hmmmm...let me paraphrase you, Richard...that's what's wrong with them (US) though...they have screwed up beliefs.
Admittedly, rape and violence against women are a massive problem in India and has increased by 7.1% since 2010. In recent years, every 20 minutes in India, a woman is raped. And yet India only ranks third for the number of rapes reported each year. What country ranks first? The United States. In India, a country of over 1.2 billion people, 24,206 rapes were reported in 2011. The same year in the United States, a nation of 350 million, 83,425 rapes were reported.
Every 107 seconds (1 minute, 47 seconds), in the US, another American is sexually assaulted. Every 20 minutes in India, a woman is raped. Here's the math. According to the U.S. Department of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS)...there is an average of 293,066 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year. In the United States, every 6.2 minutes a woman is raped.
Even if sexual assault in India is dramatically under reported, (and I would bet it is in every country), the statistical difference is still striking...as is the inclination to dismiss such monstrous human rights violations as problems that only other countries face. Not only is violence against women a global pandemic but the United States leads the way. @kylaray ...perhaps you should ask the same question you posted above of American men.
Are women who are sexually assaulted treated better in the US? In Canada? In Germany? Not for a second. It doesn't matter what country we talk about, victims are subject to shame and blame as often as not.
Has nothing to do with religious practices. Nice try though...or should I say, shame on you. Trying to blame religion on something that men do around the world. Maybe that's your way of covering for men. Blame it on something absurd.
What it is...a world wide problem with human rights and human safety at stake. The humans? Women. Instead of trying to lay the blame on something that has no bearing on "rape" and instead of trying to lay the blame on one country's male population, why not see the picture for what it is? A global problem with all males...and speak out against that.

If you haven't used those things to understand this issue... well... maybe you should.

Richard 'Nope. Didn't rifle through any documents on this one... just used my eyes, ears, and brain. If you haven't used those things to understand this issue... well... maybe you should.'
You posted exactly what I was going to.
